"But what if I forget it?"

"I know you won't
because I'm going to send you letters
every day."

Trailer

 Logline

A Korean trip journalist recalls her memory of her first love and tries to send a letter at the Bournemouth beach.

Synopsis

<Reaching Out to You> is a romance short film between two women who met in Bournemouth.

In 1998, Emma, a Korean master student in journalism, happens to meet Debbie while writing a diary on Bournemouth Beach in England. Emma, who is timid, gradually opens her mind to outgoing and straightforward Debbie. As the number of pictures of memories increases and the love between them deepens, the separation becomes closer. On the day Emma returns to Korea, Emma hands Debbie her diary and asks her to send it back to her in ten years. They exchange letters for years since then, but at some point, Debbie has not replied to Emma.

It is a film that feels like a gentle lake and then changes to a sea with heavy waves. The tide of love between Emma and Debbie will surge through the coldest winter.

Director's Statement

감독 말 1_edited.jpg

I am a person who has a heart full of love. I love the clear sky, wonderful paintings, and cheerful jazz, and I love my family and friends who always support me and make me smile. And I'm in love with one person. I wouldn't call her my girlfriend, but the time I spent with her inspired me to write the script of this film. I know there are people who do not understand how Emma and Debbie can be ten years apart and still like each other. I believe it's possible if the love for each other is strong enough because I'm going through it. For the past four years, when I have been studying in the UK and she has been working in Korea, we have been in touch every day and exchanged letters with gifts two or three times a year. (Some of her gifts were used as props for the film.)

Through <Reaching Out to You>, I wanted to show that such strong and long-lasting love exists. A love that cannot be interrupted by time and distance and that gender does not matter. I made this film for people who love someone as I do. Nothing can stop your love. Let’s be proud together.
